OpenAI's new agents are going to be expensive. Like VERY expensive. Will they be able to replace human workers? We got into it...

Would you pay $20,000 for an AI Agent with this sort of ability? Maybe not but the bigger question is: Would your employer? Large corporations are going to look at these much different than we will as consumers. And that has huge implications for the overall work force.

The conversation here is incredibly nuanced and difficult - but when you think about what PhD-level brains command, especially in the AI space, it doesn't sound insane. The big difference is that these agents can work 24/7 (at least if they have enough compute) and that's a huge difference from us humans who continue to do need to do things like sleep and eat.

It's starting to sound less like IF and more like WHEN these sorts of job replacements happen and we really do need to start thinking about what this means for the people who might be replaced.
