A study just published in Nature shows how AI has learned to beat human Drone Racers in a head-to-head battle, for the first time. This is a huge deal and extrapolating out, we're looking at a fully blown robot Olympics.

Everyone should read the report but the tl;dr is that researchers figured out how to use AI to study how racers made decisions and combined that with real time information. Practically, this means that they get better each time the do the race and, unlike humans, don't have to deal with fatigue or small screw ups.
What does this mean for sports going forward? Well, if you extrapolate from what happened with DeepMind or AlphaGO, it means we're likely entering into a place in the not so far future where robots are likely better than us at sports overall. Will we want to watch that? Only time will tell.
